Half-Life author leaves Valve Software – Heise Newsticker

Marc Laidlaw wrote the stories for computer games Half-Life and Half-Life 2. In an email, he confirmed now, having left his longtime employer, which can run wild speculation about a possible successor.

The US author Marc Laidlaw has left his employer Valve Software after nearly 18 years. Laidlaw hired 1998 at the then young game developers. The science-fiction and horror writer wrote the stories about the computer games Half-Life, Half-Life 2 and some additional episodes of the series. As a reason for his resignation Laidlaw called in a Reddit post his advanced age. He wanted now with 55 years again write their own stories.

located Laidlaw kept covered on demand to the possible continuations of the series. Since he was not an employee of Valve more, he wanted to speculate about a possible neither Episode 3 of Half-Life 2 or even Half-Life 3 “Where Valve leads the series in the future, is not in my hands.”

Fans of the series see Laidlaw’s departure, however as further evidence that not working at Valve sequels. In this regard, they cite Valve boss Gabe Newell, who had recently emphasized to ask for Half-Life, his company had evolved considerably since 2004 and it was a bad idea to hold on to the past. This is also confirmed talks that H had with Valve on the occasion of the presentation of the new VR headsets Vive.
