Munich – barrier to tunnel blocked: For many commuters the Luise-Kiesselbach tunnel was on Tuesday morning an ordeal. A false alarm caused long traffic jams.

According to the Baureferats an external firm had been waiting in the morning and tested the emergency power supply. A false alarm (carbon monoxide-message) triggered – It was – due to a software problem. All lights sprang automatically to red, the tunnel was blocked both tubes made completely tight at 9.45 clock.

giant Traffic Chaos

By coincidence, a service vehicle of the press office of the police headquarters at the concrete top. In consultation with the Vessel Traffic Service officers drove with blue light in the tunnel, but found neither a source of danger still smoke. The false alarm was reset. From 10.15 clock the traffic rolled again. Meanwhile, long queues at the entrances were formed. That’s there but nothing out of the ordinary. At peak hours the traffic is here every now and again. Among other things, because of the construction sites around the tunnel. Currently, the city tinkers at four locations. Thus, the Building Department can provide the legally required maintenance on the operation and maintenance in the tunnels to carry out.

Also at the surface is worked, for example, at the Garmischer Straße. There is still to the end of 2017 only one lane per direction freely. Furthermore, the ramp is constructed from the surface into the trough of the Heckenstallerstraße. There also the bridge is being cleaned. According Baureferat all work is on schedule.

Currently, due to construction of access roads is still some pace 30. The KVR will consider after completion, if this scheme will apply or anywhere tempo to apply 50th

As has already received a lot of traffic, the tunnel and how high is the storage load, you can not answer now. Meaningful figures for transport and storage load is not yet available. Sascha Karowski, Dorita Plange

The huge project

Around six years the works have lasted until the new tubes ready dug and concreted were … given a lot of pre-planning was necessary – after all, for example, had a lot to lay underground cables new. But that does not mean that the Luise-Kiesselbach Square would be completely finished already. Because: On the surface, there’s still much to do. Where the Munich previously known only a gray desert, intended to create a small, green oasis. With meadows, with boardwalks, with trees, with hedges, with seating – a real park. Completion hopefully in the summer 2017th
