New software calculates optimal mix of renewable energy and … – Solar Server

The project developer ABO Wind (Wiesbaden) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES (Kassel) have developed a software program that enhanced the investigating mix of renewable energy sources and energy storage for individual locations or regions, the Institute reported in a press release.

OPTIMIX considered potential for all renewable energy and making the necessary storage technologies for each location. Optimization goal lowest possible CO 2 emissions or electricity generation costs selectable.

“New is the load input-oriented simulation of power consumption and power generation for specific sites,” explains project leader Jörg Wirtz of ABO Wind. “This can create a model for an exact hourly, last gang fair mix of renewable energies for each location the software.”

Optimization of island grids and grid-connected systems possible

The optimization tool calculates capacities but also electricity production costs and CO 2 footprint of technologies for using renewable energy, wind power plants, biomass plants to photovoltaics. The software is designed to help municipalities or utilities to adapt the development of renewable energies to the needs and potential of locally.

“The software determines next to the optimal mix of renewable energy also a complementary mix of power saving. The optimization can be done economically or ecologically for isolated grids and grid connected systems. The tool supports all major storage technologies and can be easily extended to other technologies, “says Matthias Puchta, project manager at the Fraunhofer IWES.

So far OPTIMIX is applicable only to the state of Hessen. The software is modular and is intended to be used in the future to other states.

presentation on the IRES

The results of the joint research project to develop OPTIMIX be at the poster session of the 9th International Conference on Renewable Energy Storage (IRES) from 9 to 11 March 2015 presented in Dusseldorf. On March 10, 2015 from 14 clock the experts of the Fraunhofer IWES present the software.
