The developers of Ubuntu Mate have decided the future is no longer the Ubuntu Software Center use as package management. Instead of long no longer improved program to other software to be used.

The Ubuntu Software Center is a proprietary development of Ubuntu, which rebuilt the concept of package management based on the model of app stores, such as Been known mobile systems. It first appeared in Ubuntu 9.10. Kubuntu Ubuntu variants with other desktops it was always free to use a different package management, as used earlier KPackageKit and currently Muon.

The slightly younger version Ubuntu Mate contrast initially used the Software Center, for the Mate desktop is the advancement Gnome 2 and therefore knew not innately the concept of a software center. However, the Ubuntu Software Center is not improved for more than a year. It looks as though Canonical work set it down to the most necessary updates. Rumor Canonical wants to implement a successor to the Software Center for the desktop Unity 8.

For this reason, the developers of Ubuntu Mate decided the Center will no longer shaped frame Ubuntu Software. Martin Wimpress, one of the project, now announced that the Software Center has been removed from the developer version. As early as the coming second Alpha version will therefore no longer arise. According Wimpress the team is working on a replacement. Whether these self-developed or derived from another source, is still open. Wimpress gave but understand that it will not be the Synaptic Package Manager, which comes as standard in the future for use. Synaptic was too Gnome 2-times the standard package management and has matured accordingly, but is conceptually far removed from a software center.

For users who have bought on the Ubuntu Software Center Software and which are therefore potentially more dependent on the program, all is not lost with the change. They are the Software Center further from the repository or potentially can install from the installation media, only in the default it will no longer be available.
