The American Environmental Protection Agency investigated a further exhaust-Software, which is installed in the new diesel models from Volkswagen. As the news agency “AP” reports, VW has therefore reported on the California and the American environmental authorities, the existence of the software on 29 September. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the expected punishment for the company might be even harder than previously expected. Moreover, apparently the 2016er models Beetle, Golf, Jetta and the Passat sedan threaten to be delivered only with delay.

The second software is called in the jargon “Auxiliary Emission Control Device” (aecD). It is according to the report also used to optimize exhaust emissions. Remains unclear whether it served to indicate manipulated values for measurements or not. The only certainty is that the software works differently than the previously known cheat software that is built into the diesel models of 2009 by 2015. This was confirmed by Volkswagen towards “AP”.

The aecD software heats the catalyst supposedly faster, which improves the separation of nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrogen dirty and oxygen, according to the report. A VW spokeswoman confirmed that the software comes during the warm-up for use.
