Picasa: Google stops support for software and includes Web Albums – netzwelt.de

Google puts an end to its image editing software Picasa and will therefore provide in future no further updates are available. In addition, the service for publishing Web Albums is set. We reveal what this step means for users.

Google is ending support for its image editing application and web service Picasa. This was announced by the company at as part of a blog entry. From 15 March, it will therefore be no further development of the software more that is offered for Windows and Mac. Furthermore, Google has a web album service Picasa. These are not available from May 2016 for more available.

The online storage function will in future Google’s new and cross-platform application Google to take pictures. This means at the same time but also clear for all those who have saved via Picasa photos or videos in the Google cloud. Sämtliches online Undocked Picasa image material has been transmitted by Google in the Photos service.

Who so do not want to make friends with this step, Picasa can continue to use even after the expiry of the time-limits for viewing, indexing, image editing, but has to be on the web albums -Connection without. Photos or videos can then be uploaded via the Google Photos auto backup tool for Windows or Mac and created as albums and shared with others. Optionally, the upload can also be made via the web application.

Given that Google Picasa has no longer supplied with new features and updates on for some time, the step by most users should be able to get over. In addition, Google Photos offers numerous functions that Picasa does not provide and can also be used on the smartphone or tablet both Android and iOS.
